Kapalua's modern history dates to the 1800s when Dr. Dwight Baldwin settled in Maui. Baldwin was awarded a large royal grant 17 years later for the lands of Mahinahina and Kahana, and eventually the land known as Honolulu Ranch grew to 24,000 acres by 1902.

The Kapalua community is guided by a spirit of environmental stewardship, continually seeking to preserve its natural beauty and habitat.

Pineapple Hill Estates is comprised of single-family detached homesites with each site approximately one acre. Homeowners in this gated community are offered six home designs with interiors custom-designed to each owner's taste. The community includes two tennis courts, a swimming pool and a whirlpool.

Schools, Healthcare, and Transportation

The Kapalua School District consists of a variety of public and private schools, including the Maui Preparatory School, Lahainaluna High School, the Preschool at Kpalua, the Sacred Hearts School and Early, and Lihikai Elementary School. There is an average of 15.8 students per teacher, which is below the national average.

The Maui Memorial Medical Center dates almost to the beginning of modern Kapalua history and has several departments, including some of the best specialists in heart and cancer care. Hospice Maui provides well-rounded service that includes spiritual and emotional care along with meeting the loved one's physical needs.

There are a variety of transportation options available in the Pineapple Hills Estates area - including Kapalua Airport on the west side of the island, Hawaii Executive Transportation, and Aina Lahaina Taxi.
